In August 2025, a friendship delegation from Kusatsu City visited Pontiac, Michigan, USA.

Shiga Prefecture and Michigan established a sister state partnership in 1968, which led to the two cities establishing a sister city partnership in 1978, marking their 47th anniversary in 2025.

During their stay, a welcome reception was held by Consul General Kishimori at the Consulate-General of Japan in Detroit, and an article of the event were posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website, "Glocal Diplomacy Net."
